Tesla has launched a sixseater, long wheelbase version of the Model Y in China. Called Tesla Model Y L, this version of the coupe electric SUV has been in the making for a long time and it will be exclusively available in China, at least in the near future. Priced at 3,39,000 yuan (or Rs 41.17 lakh), the new Model Y L adds a third row of seats along with a host of premium features over the regular Model Y.
Tesla Model Y L: Design & Dimensions
The design of the Model Y L is almost identical to the standard Model Y barring redesigned 19inch alloy wheels, a longer roofline, bigger quarter glass and a blackedout spoiler. Further, the Model Y L flaunts a ‘YYY’ badging at the rear signifying that it can accommodate more people. In addition, there is a new colour option called Starlight Gold available with the Model Y L.
As expected, the Model Y L is dimensionally different from its 5seater sibling. The model has grown by 179mm in length, with the wheelbase extended by 150mm to 3,040mm. Its overall length now measures 4,976mm, while the height has increased to 1,668mm.

Tesla Model Y L: Interiors
The biggest change inside the cabin is the new 2+2+2 seating configuration. The second row comes with captain seats that are now heated, ventilated, and come with powerfolding armrests. The third row seats offer heated functionality. In terms of features, the Model Y L offers a 16inch touchscreen and an updated audio system with as many as 18 speakers (4 more). Additionally, both second and third rows now get pillarmounted air vents.
Tesla Model Y L: Powertrain
Tesla is offering the Model Y L with a dualmotor, allwheel drive setup that pushes out 191 bhp from the front motor and 265 bhp from the rear unit. Power is derived from a familiar 82kWh battery pack that returns a 751km range on the China LightDuty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) — 1 km more than the standard Model Y. Despite being 96 kilos heavier than the regular Model Y at 2,088kg, the Model Y L is mighty quick — sprinting from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.5 seconds.
