New Delhi: Former skipper Heather Knight has made her return as England announced a 15-member squad for the forthcoming women’s ODI World Cup 2025. The star-studded squad also sees the inclusion of Sarah Glenn and Danni Wyatt-Hodge as both the players also returned for the showpiece event to be held in India and Sri Lanka.
The 50-over women’s tournament will begin on September 29 and five cities across India and Sri Lanka will host the matches. Sarah and Hodge come up as a big boost in the squad after the duo missed the recent series against India. Meanwhile, Knight returns to the squad after having been on the sidelines for the last few months due to a tendon injury in her right hamstring.
Nat Sciver-Brunt to lead the show for England women
Sarah Glenn happens to be one of the four specialists spinners in the squad and one of the six players from the team who will play their maiden ODI World Cup. This edition of the showpiece women’s event will be the first one for Nat Sciver-Brunt as a captain in an ICC event. This comes after the English player, who happens to be the world number one ranked ODI batter, was named as the all-format skipper in April 2025.
In the squad announced on August 21, there were some of the notable omissions as well as Kate Cross, Maia Bouchier and Alice Davidson-Richards didn’t find a place in the 15-member list for the marquee women’s event. The event would be England’s first ODI World Cup under new skipper Sciver-Brunt and head coach Charlotte Edwards. Australian team is the defending champion after they beat England in the finals of the 2022 edition.
The rest of the squad features the experienced Tammy Beaumont, Lauren Bell, Alice Capsey, Sophie Ecclestone among others.
