Summer's end is rapidly approaching, and that sadly means just one thing - spiders. British homes are more likely to encounter these eight-legged visitors as the autumn evenings draw close, which is bad news if you're not keen on them.

The last thing anyone wants is for spiders or dust mitesto infiltrate your bed, potentially leading to a rather nasty shock when you pull back the duvet. Dust mites can trigger symptoms like skin irritation or allergy-type reactions, but being microscopic, it's difficult to determine how to eliminate them.

Fortunately, one cleaning guru has revealed a straightforward method for banishing both these pests using merely two components.

Lifestyle influencer Chantel Mila on TikTok, who commands over 1.6 million followers, claims you can effortlessly deter spiders and dust mites from your bedroom - and your bed - by creating a basic spray with just two elements.

In a recent clip, she revealed: "This mix is my go-to to leave your room bug-free and smelling amazing." What's more, it only requires two household essentials—white vinegar and essential oil—which you've likely already got tucked away in your cupboards, reports the Express.

How to keep spiders and dust mites out of your bed:

  • Initially, you'll need to obtain a spray bottle and fill it with one cup of water.
  • Next, incorporate half a cup of white vinegar and several drops of either lavender or peppermint essential oil. Whether you utilise it for nodding off or have previously employed it to ward off other unwanted creatures, these oils are genuinely useful to keep around the home.
  • Give it a good shake to mix thoroughly, then spray across your bed or any other spots where you're concerned about encountering spiders.
  • Chantel explained: "This powerful mix can be used on your mattress, bedhead and bedsides to repel spiders and dust."

Arachnids are believed to despise the potent acidic scent of white vinegar, but diluting it with water means you can still spritz it around your sleeping area without leaving an unpleasant odour lingering. The essential oils function similarly, and numerous other nuisances—including rats, mice, and flies—also loathe the fragrance of peppermint.

Alongside these two ingredients, spiders apparently aren't keen on cinnamon either. Sprinkling this aromatic spice along window ledges and entranceways forms a protective barrier against spiders, making them far less inclined to venture into your property seeking warmth and mating opportunities.
