A Netflix fan thought she spotted an uncanny “lookalike” of a famous television character before coming to a shocking realisation. Some television shows have established themselves as mainstays on the smash hit streaming platform, with fans tuning in to re-watch them over and over again.

This appears to be the case with the US adaptation of The Office, the mockumentary that made stars of creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, as well as actor Martin Freeman. The US version is fronted by Steve Carell, who plays Michael Scott, the regional manager at Dunder Mifflin Paper Company.

Set in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the show ran for nine seasons from 2005 until 2013, and followed the lives of a group of people working in an office. Carell’s Michael Scott was the American counterpart of Ricky Gervais’s character, David Brent.

Despite both characters’ obvious need for attention and adulation, they do differ wildly and the US version carved its own path in terms of storylines and character development.

Throughout the show’s first six seasons, Michael regularly faced his gentle-natured CFO, David Wallace, played by Andy Buckley. The character then made a return in season eight.

David Wallace proved to be popular among fans, with many jokingly quoting the character of Meredith Palmer who told him his “wife was a very lucky woman.”

On Reddit, one fan simply confessed: “Huge David Wallace fan. Hot and seems like a good guy.”

Another fan got a shock when visiting Vegas after spotting a “lookalike” of David Wallace only to quickly realise it was the actual actor, Andy Buckley, who played him.

She shared a photo of the two of them together, as well as the “business card” he gave her, on social media. It was subsequently shared elsewhere in various The Office fan groups.

The woman’s post was captioned: “Guys, I just arrived in Vegas and I saw a guy who looked exactly like David Wallace getting into a cab and I definitely ran up to him and he shook my hand and gave me these cards because he IS DAVID WALLACE”.

The card was a mock-up of David Wallace’s business card after the character bought and took over Dunder Mifflin.

It reads: “Dunder Mifflin Paper Company | Limitless paper in a paperless world

“David Wallace, CFO, CEO & owner | call us, we’re hiring” and, at the bottom, Andy Buckley’s name is added.

When the woman’s experience was shared on Facebook, fans were keen to share their thoughts and similarly positive experiences with the actor.

One person said: “He just married my wife and I! Super nice guy. He went and got ordained just for us!”

Another said: “Andy Buckley is the GOAT [greatest of all time]! What an amazing way for him to connect with fans. Love it!”

A third joked: “The most patient man in the world right there!” In reference to the various silly and hilarious escapades Michael often forces David to endure.

Another added: “I love that he carries those on him!”
