Rapido Fined: A fine of 10 lakhs imposed on Rapido, company will give refund to customers

Rapido Fined: The Central Consumer Protection Authority i.e. CCPA has fined Ride Helling Platform Rapido. Together, its customers have also been ordered to give refunds. Ride—-, platform Rapido had run a misseding ad like ‘guaranteed auto’ and ‘Auto or 50 rupees in 5 minutes’, which imposed a fine of 10 lakhs on the company.

The court found the advertising operations misleading and directed the company to stop their broadcast immediately.

CCPA reported that these advertisements lasted for 548 days (1.5 years) in many languages ​​in more than 120 cities, which further increased their misleading effects. Between June 2024 and July 2025, Rapido faced more than 1,200 consumer complaints, half of which was not resolved.

Finding guilty of unfair trade practices, Rapido was asked to pay the fine.

Data from the National Consumer Helpline showed that the number of complaints against Rapido increased to 1,224 between June 2024 and July 2025, as compared to 575 in the last 14 months period.

CCPA investigations revealed that disconnections in Rapido advertisements were displayed in extremely small and unlimited fonts. The promise of a profit of Rs 50 was not a real currency, but “rapido coins” of “up to Rs 50” value, which could only be used for bike riding and whose deadline was finished within seven days.

The authority found that the guarantee was claimed prominently in advertisements, but the terms and conditions stated that the assurance was given by the individual drivers, not by the Rapido – it was an attempt to remove the obligation from the company.

The ministry said in a statement, “Such sanctions reduced the value of the proposal and forced consumers to use the second service of Rapido improperly within a short period of time.”

According to guidelines for the prevention of misleading advertisements and supports, discomfort cannot deny the main claims or hide significant information. The CCPA stated that Rapido’s advertisements have violated these requirements except for major boundaries without any prominence.

Rapido works in more than 120 cities and launched a misleading campaign for about 548 days in many regional languages. Many complaints of consumers are to deficiencies in service, not getting refunds, recovering more money and not providing promised services, and most of the complaints remain unsolved despite being shared with the company.

The CCPA urged consumers to be cautious of advertisements making “guaranteed” or “confident” promises without clear terms.

Consumers facing misleading advertisements can call the National Consumer Helpline 1915 or use the NCH app or website.

The authority has ordered Rapido to close the misleading advertisement immediately.
