Indian teams cannot travel to Pakistan and host the neighboring country for bilateral matches.

However, this restriction does not apply to the World Cups and the Olympics.

A sports ministry source confirmed to India Today that India will compete against Pakistan in the Asia Cup, which the Asian Cricket Council organises. The Men ion Blue will play against Pakistan on September 14.

India and Pakistan haven’t played the bilateral games since 2012–13. India didn’t travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup in 2023 and the 2025 Champions Trophy. These tournaments took place at neutral venues.

Former cricketers have urged the BCCI to boycott the match against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025.

“India will not participate in or host Pakistan in bilateral competitions. However, the teams can play against Pakistan in international and multilateral events,” the Sports Ministry said.

“Indian teams and individual players will be a part of international tournaments that include teams or players from Pakistan. Pakistan players and teams will be allowed to compete in such events hosted by India,” the Sports Ministry added.
