Allegations Against Rahul Mamkootathil
Rahul Mamkootathil, a member of the Congress Legislative Assembly (MLA), has stepped down from his position as the state president of the Youth Congress following accusations of inappropriate behavior made by writer Honey Bhaskaran and model Rini N. George. Earlier today, V.D. Satheesan, the Leader of the Opposition in Kerala and a Congress leader, addressed the allegations against Mamkootathil, which include sending inappropriate messages and engaging in lewd conduct.
Party's Response to the Allegations
Satheesan assured that the Congress party would conduct a thorough investigation into the claims and emphasized that if the allegations are found to be serious, there would be no leniency. He stated, “We will investigate the severity of the allegations. If they are indeed serious, we will take necessary actions. There is a process in place; he will have the opportunity to present his side. Only after that will we make a decision. We will act promptly, without delay. There are no complaints against the party. If someone raises an allegation, we will investigate it. We take this very seriously and will take appropriate action without mercy.”
Women Congress Leaders Speak Out
Meanwhile, Women Congress leader Bindu Krishna remarked, “The Women’s Congress has communicated its stance to the party. The party must respond and will make an appropriate decision. I have not received any complaints against Rahul Mamkootathil before. No girl should have to endure such experiences. No girl should face unpleasant experiences in cyberspace.” Honey Bhaskaran alleged in a Facebook post that Mamkootathil had messaged her on social media.
Details of the Allegations
She mentioned that the initial messages were about travel, which she responded to, but later, he began sending her continuous messages. Upon realizing that he had no intention of stopping, she ceased responding. She also learned from Youth Congress workers that Mamkootathil had made derogatory remarks about her and initiated the conversation. These allegations surfaced shortly after Rini N. George accused the Congress MLA of sending her inappropriate messages on multiple occasions and inviting her to a hotel. George stated that when she threatened to inform her party, the leader challenged her to do so. She did not disclose the leader's name or the party.
