Actor Shuja Asad has called on Pakistan’s entertainment industry to take responsibility for its “unsung heroes” — the crew members and workers who keep dramas and films running smoothly but often work in unsafe conditions.
The College Gate star in his Instagram post said that the heavy rains reminded him of the daily struggles of these workers. He stressed that many crew members are forced to work without even basic safety gear such as gloves, boots, or protective equipment. “In such weather, it’s not just discomfort — it’s life and death. A single slip, a live wire, or unsafe conditions can take a life,” he warned.
Furthermore he said that these workers travel a long distance to reach to the sets, yet they remain least prioritized. “Actors like us are privileged, but these workers hold everything together behind the scenes. The industry must step up for their dignity, safety, and wellbeing,” he wrote.
His message was strongly supported by actor Kubra Khan, who shared that her heart “broke” seeing essential workers being ignored. She stressed that every member of the team must be treaded equally from spot boy to makeup artist. “If an accident happens after repeated warnings, it’s not an accident anymore, it’s negligence,” she said.
The appeal comes after Karachi faced deadly downpours on Tuesday, which left eight people dead, flooded roads, and caused major power outages. The Sindh government announced a public holiday on Wednesday as the city struggled with damaged infrastructure.
Both actors urged the industry to look beyond glamour and ensure the safety of those who make TV and film production possible.
