The father of Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a stabbing in a Las Vegas park that police say stemmed from a dispute over a parking space.
Clark County jail records show Quenton M. Brown, who goes by his middle name Marselles, was booked Thursday morning(August 21) on an attempted murder charge. The 57-year-old is a former heavyweight boxer with a professional career that began in the late 1980s.
The altercation took place on Wednesday evening at All American Park, according to a police arrest report obtained by NBC affiliate KSNV. Investigators said the conflict began when an SUV parked next to another vehicle and a passenger allegedly struck the parked car’s door while exiting.
A verbal argument followed, and police say Marselles Brown later confronted the driver. According to the arrest report, one witness told officers Brown swung a knife “25 times” at the victim.
Doctors told police the victim suffered stab wounds to his back, clavicle and hands, and a broken rib. His condition was described as critical after undergoing emergency surgery, according to TMZ, which identified the man as youth football coach Cross Tupuola.
Officers later located a vehicle matching the suspect’s description and found Brown in the front passenger seat, bleeding from the face and with abrasions on his knees.
The arrest report states Brown “spontaneously uttered that this was all over a door ding,” according to KSNV. Investigators said they seized clothing with apparent bloodstains but did not recover a weapon.
Brown was treated at University Medical Center before being transferred to the Clark County Detention Center, where he was scheduled to appear in court Thursday afternoon.
Brown, who fought professionally as Marselles Brown, posted a record of 33 wins, 18 losses and one draw during a career that began in 1989, according to BoxRec. He also faced legal trouble in the past, including a 2016 arrest in Henderson, Nevada, on a misdemeanor battery charge, local records show.
Jaylen Brown, a four-time NBA All-Star and 2024 champion with the Celtics, is not believed to have been in contact with his father at the time of the incident. TMZ, citing sources close to the player, reported Thursday that the 28-year-old “doesn’t have a close relationship with his father and was unaware of the arrest or incident.”
Neither Brown nor the Boston Celtics has publicly commented on the case.
