Key Discussions Between Macron and Modi

New Delhi: On Thursday, French President Emmanuel Macron reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza involving Israel and Hamas.

Macron was part of a group of European leaders who accompanied Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his recent discussions with US President Donald Trump.

The French leader has been instrumental in Europe's initiatives to secure Ukraine, especially in light of potential negotiations with Russia to conclude the ongoing war.

In a social media update, Modi expressed, "I had a productive conversation with my friend President Macron. We exchanged insights on the peaceful resolution of conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia, reaffirming our dedication to enhancing the India-France strategic partnership."

The call was initiated by France.

Macron later shared on 'X' that he and Modi aligned their positions regarding the Ukraine conflict, aiming for a fair and enduring peace that ensures security for both Ukraine and Europe.

According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the leaders discussed their ongoing efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine and West Asia.

Macron provided insights into recent discussions among European, US, and Ukrainian leaders in Washington, as well as his views on the situation in Gaza.

Modi reiterated India's unwavering support for a peaceful resolution and the swift restoration of stability.

The two leaders also evaluated the progress in their bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including trade, defense, civil nuclear collaboration, technology, and energy.

They committed to strengthening the India-France strategic partnership and designated 2026 as the 'Year of Innovation' to be celebrated appropriately.

Macron also expressed support for the timely conclusion of the proposed free trade agreement between India and the European Union.

He emphasized that enhancing economic exchanges and the strategic partnership is crucial for both nations' sovereignty and independence.

Following the AI Action Summit held in Paris last February, they are preparing for the AI Impact Summit scheduled for New Delhi in 2026.

Macron concluded by stating their agreement to collaborate closely in anticipation of the French presidency of the G7 and India's presidency of BRICS in 2026.
