Exciting Jersey Reveal for UP Yoddhas
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], August 21: The UP Yoddhas have officially unveiled their new jersey in a special event held in Lucknow, gearing up for the upcoming Season 12 of the Pro Kabaddi League.
The team emphasized their commitment to nurturing talent, empowering youth, and building a squad focused on sustainable success. This vision is reflected in the selection of Sumit Sangwan as captain and Ashu Singh as vice-captain, both of whom have been integral to the franchise since Season 7.
Head coach Jasveer Singh expressed confidence in the team's composition, stating, “We have assembled a squad that harmonizes experience with fresh talent. Our aim is to instill confidence in our younger players to play freely, while our seasoned members offer guidance and stability. We are well-prepared and optimistic about a successful season ahead.”
Sumit Sangwan, the newly appointed captain and a key defender, remarked, “Leading UP Yoddhas in Season 12 is a tremendous honor. The trust the team has placed in me motivates me to deliver outstanding performances. We have a close-knit team, and with our fans' support, we aim to make this season unforgettable.”
Satyam Trivedi, CEO of GMR Sports, highlighted the team's philosophy of consistency and positive energy, stating, “We are dedicated to providing opportunities for young talent and building a squad with a long-term vision. As we enter the new season, we will maintain this positive mindset and our steadfast commitment.”
The Yoddhas have retained 13 players from the previous season, ensuring the core team remains intact while also making strategic signings during the auction to enhance their roster. Ashu Singh will serve as Sumit’s reliable deputy, with both players expected to strengthen the team's performance on the mat throughout the season.
Additionally, six players have been promoted from Yuva Yoddhas, the franchise's developmental team that trains at the UP Yoddhas Academy, a state-of-the-art facility aimed at developing elite athletes and nurturing kabaddi talent from across Uttar Pradesh, underscoring the franchise's long-term commitment to the sport.
The UP Yoddhas will kick off their season against the Telugu Titans at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Vizag on August 30, Saturday.
