
IIM CAT 2025: A new Indian Institute of Management (IIM) will open in the country. It will be set up in Guwahati, with an investment of Rs 555 crore. The new institute will be named IIM Guwahati. Union Education Minister Pradhan said that the establishment of IIM-Guwahati will contribute to India's goal of becoming the third-largest economy in the world. He said that this would be the ninth IIM since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister in 2014. The minister also highlighted that from 1961 to 2014, only 13 IIMs were established, while the number of students is expected to increase from 3,500 in 2013-14 to 9,800 in 2024-25.
How many IIMs are there in the country?
At present, there are a total of 20 Indian Institutes of Management in the country, of which IIM Ahmedabad is the oldest. IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow, and IIM Kozhikode are the major institutes. Various types of management courses are conducted in these institutes, including MBA, PGDM, Executive MBA, and Ph.D. Apart from this, many certificates and online courses are also offered.
Is there admission to IIM even without CAT?
Admission to IIM's regular MBB program is based on the CAT score. After the release of the CAT results, all IIMs will release their cutoff percentile. After passing the CAT, one has to give an interview for admission, after which admission is granted. Group discussion is also held in the exam.
In some of IIM's Executive MBA (PGPX, EPGP, IPMX) programs, admission is done through GMAT/GRE score instead of the CAT score. If the candidate has more than 5 years of work experience, then admission in the Executive MBA in institutes like IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta will be given on the basis of GMAT score and interview.
Direct admission is done in these courses at IIM.

How many packages do you get after studying at IIM?
According to the placement report of the MBA course this year, the average package at IIM Ahmedabad was Rs 34.45 lakh per annum, and the maximum was Rs 1.46 crore per annum. At the same time, the average package of IIM Bangalore was Rs 34.88 lakh, and the maximum was Rs 1.15 crore per annum. In 2023, the average placement package of MBBS at IIM Calcutta was Rs 35.07, and the maximum was Rs 1.15 crore.
