Viral Video Highlights Dangerous Coal Theft

A disturbing video circulating on social media shows young boys, approximately 13 to 14 years old, engaging in coal theft from a moving freight train along the Lalmatiya-Farakka MGR Railway Line in Jharkhand. The footage captures them performing perilous stunts reminiscent of action scenes from Bollywood films, as they leap between train cars and climb onto coal-filled coaches with sacks and spades strapped to their backs.

The alarming nature of this video has raised significant concerns among viewers, with many commenting that a single misstep could have resulted in a tragic accident.

Locals report that such thefts are not uncommon. The Lalmatia-NTPC Farakka line has been plagued by coal theft for years. Thieves often manipulate the train's vacuum system to slow it down or stop it, facilitating the theft of coal, which is then quickly gathered by individuals waiting below to sell in local markets.

Such incidents are prevalent in regions like Moti Pahari, Telo, Phulbhanga, Sonajodi, Dhobadiha, Imli Chowk, and Shivpahar. Despite ongoing efforts and the presence of the CISF, these thefts persist.

Authorities have confirmed that numerous individuals have lost their lives in similar situations over the years. The involvement of minors in such hazardous and illegal activities not only highlights the influence of social media-driven exhibitionism but also reveals the entrenched issue of coal smuggling. This situation presents a significant challenge for law enforcement and security agencies.
