Actress Sonyaa Ayoddhya is known for her bold and unfiltered opinions, and this time she’s addressing something many shy away from relationships , respect, and the flawed way society conditions men and women to handle emotions.
Speaking about the foundation of any bond, Sonyaa said, "Respect and communication are my non-negotiables. No relationship can survive without respect on the table. You have to truly value your partner for anything to last."
She emphasized how the lack of emotional education has left generations struggling to build sustainable relationships. "It’s strange we are taught math, history, and science, but never how to love or sustain a relationship. And yet relationships are the foundation of our lives. Without emotional safety and connection, how can anyone operate at their full potential?"
Pointing to deeper issues, Sonyaa says, "We failed an entire generation by not teaching the basics of emotional intelligence . We raised men to be emotionally numb and chase women mindlessly, and we raised women to wait for a man to love them and be as vulnerable as possible."
She highlighted further, "When you teach two genders completely different emotional languages, how can you be surprised when they don’t understand each other or when relationships fall apart? The system was broken from the start."
Sonyaa added, "Men should be taught to feel, not suppress. To express, not perform and just like women are taught to stay loyal and emotionally invested, men deserve to be taught how to connect, be present, and love responsibly. But we have taught the wrong things to both genders, one to numb, the other to overgive and then we act surprised when relationships fail."
According to Sonyaa, "This disparity in emotional conditioning is at the root of almost every problem we are facing as a society today."
