
Court Delivers Justice in Mayurbhanj District
Baripada: In a significant ruling, a court in Mayurbhanj district, Odisha, sentenced a 60-year-old man to life imprisonment for the rape of a specially abled girl last year.
Judge Santosh Kumar Nayak of the Fast Track Special Court found Birasing Hansdah guilty of the crime against the 12-year-old victim and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000, as stated by special public prosecutor Manaranjan Pattnaik.
The accused was charged under various sections of the POCSO Act.
Additionally, the court ordered the Mayurbhanj District Legal Services Authority to provide Rs 4 lakh in compensation to the survivor, according to Pattnaik.
The incident occurred on June 17, 2024, prompting the survivor's family to file a First Information Report (FIR) at the Badampahar police station, leading to Hansdah's arrest.
