Support for Stray Dog Welfare
Actor and comedian Vir Das has expressed his approval of the Supreme Court's recent ruling regarding stray dogs. The court's updated directive mandates that these animals should be returned to their original neighborhoods after undergoing sterilization and vaccination, with the exception of those that are rabid or display aggressive tendencies.
On Friday, Das shared his thoughts on X, highlighting the significance of sterilization and vaccination, as well as the necessity for dogs to have a 'safe return' to their communities. He called on local authorities to promptly establish designated feeding zones for these animals. Additionally, he recommended that municipalities partner with trainers and behaviorists to facilitate 'behavioral modification' and enhance the integration of dogs within neighborhoods.
In his message, he stated, “I extend my gratitude to the Supreme Court of India for endorsing the sterilization, vaccination, and safe return of our community dogs to their neighborhoods. I hope the municipality can swiftly create dedicated feeding areas and collaborate with various dog trainers and behaviorists across Delhi and the country for behavioral modification and community integration. It’s reassuring to know that our voiceless dogs can count on your compassion and fairness.” The Supreme Court's revised order on Friday emphasized that stray dogs should be released back into their territories post-sterilization and immunization, while those infected with rabies or showing aggression will be kept separately. “Stray dogs will be returned to their original areas after sterilization and immunization, except for those that are rabid or exhibit aggressive behavior,” the court stated.
