New Delhi: South Africa is set to host 44 matches in the 2027 ODI World Cup. Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Friday confirmed the venues for the showpiece event, which is set to be hosted in October-November 2027. A total of eight venues across eight cities in the country will be hosting matches during the tournament, which will be the 14th edition of the quadrennial event.

The 2027 ODI World Cup is set to be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. While South Africa will stage a total of 44 matches, Zimbabwe and Namibia will host five matches each. CSA has confirmed that Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Bloemfontein, East London, Gqeberha and Paarl will be hosting the matches during the 2027 ODI World Cup.

The announcement of the venues was made at CSA’s Local Organising Committee Board (LOCB) unveiling ceremony, where former South Africa minister Trevor Manuel also took charge as the chairman of the LOCB. The committee is responsible for the smooth conduct of the entire tournament in South Africa.

Men’s ODI World Cup in South Africa after 24 years

South Africa is set to host an ODI World Cup after 24 years in 2027. The country co-hosted the 2003 ODI World Cup alongside Kenya and Zimbabwe. CSA thus wants to leave no stone unturned in preparing for the showpiece event and wants to ensure that the event is a memorable one for the cricket fans across the nation. A total of 14 teams will take part in the tournament co-hosted by three countries.

South Africa last hosted an ICC men’s event in 2009 when they staged the Champions Trophy 2009. The country also hosted the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007. South Africa has also hosted the women’s ODI World Cup in 2005 and the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2003, where the hosts lost to Australia in the final.

The last edition of the men’s ODI World Cup was played in India in 2023, where the Men in Blue made it to the final unbeaten, but lost to Australia in the summit clash. India missed out on lifting their third title after losing to Australia, who won a record sixth men’s ODI World Cup crown. Both India and Australia will once again head into the 2027 edition as title favourites.
