“Just get the desired figure in a few session!”, “Look slim and fit without working hard!” – We often watch such breathtaking advertisements on TV, newspapers and internet. Especially when this advertisement is of a big and reliable brand like VLCC, we easily believe it. But now the government has started clamping down on such false and misleading advertisements.
The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), a government organization protecting consumer rights, has imposed a heavy fine of Rs 3 lakh on the country’s well-known health and wellness company VLCC.
Why was this penalty?
This action on VLCC has been taken due to print of misleading advertisements to their slimming and weight loss treatment. The CCPA in its investigation found that VLCC was making claims in its advertisements that had no scientific basis. They were assuring customers that their treatment could reduce weight easily and rapidly, which was not completely true.
This decision is a major victory for all the customers who ruin both their money and time by coming under the guise of such advertisements. This step of CCPA gives a clear message that no matter how big a company is, it cannot mislead customers.

Along with imposing fines, CCPA has also ordered VLCC to stop these misleading advertisements immediately. This decision is not only for VLCC, but a warning for all companies that resort to false promises to woo customers.
