Americans have been wondering why Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. hits the gym in jeans. RFK Jr has finally revealed why he works out wearing jeans.

During an interview with Fox News, host Jesse Watters asked Kennedy what he called “the question that everybody is wondering about.” “Why do you wear jeans when you work out?” asked Watters.

“Well, I just started doing that a long time ago because I would go hiking in the morning, and then I’d go straight to the gym, and I found it was convenient, and now I’m used to it, so I just do it,” said Kennedy.

“There were a lot of theories, but that makes perfect sense,” said Watters.

The 71-year-old Trump ally is well-known for his denim workout attire, explained the reasoning behind his unusual choice. The unusual workout gear drew attention during Kennedy’s fitness challenge with Fox News personality-turned-Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

In a video, published by the Department of Defense Monday, the pair took part in what they called the “Pete and Bobby Challenge,” in which they had to complete 50 pull-ups and 100 push-ups in under 10 minutes.

“It’s all about making America healthy again. We’re gonna be fit, not fat,” Hegseth said in the video. “We want recruits that are ready to go.”

“Pete and I are going to do our part to encourage American youth to do this challenge,” Kennedy added. While Hegseth and other challengers wore standard shorts, Kennedy stuck to his signature jeans.

The health secretary has been sporting denim at the gym for years. The video shows them completing the pull-up and push-up challenge in under six minutes.

In June 2023, while still running for president, Kennedy posted a clip of himself in jeans completing push-ups. “Getting in shape for my debates with President Biden!” he captioned the video at the time.

He repeated the denim routine in December 2024 ahead of his confirmation hearings for the HHS secretary role. In that clip, Kennedy said he was “practicing moves for my confirmation hearing” while wearing jeans and no shirt.

'Make America Healthy Again'

Kennedy joined the fitness challenge as part of his “Make America Healthy Again” initiative, a clear nod to Donald Trump’s famous “Make America Great Again” slogan. The MAHA campaign zeroes in on public health, pushing for fewer artificial additives in food and drinks and sparking debate over childhood health choices, including vaccines.

Kennedy argues that American children are becoming increasingly unwell — a claim experts partially support, noting that in 2023, U.S. kids were 15–20% more likely to suffer from chronic conditions than they were in 2011.

In a controversial move under Kennedy’s direction, the Department of Health and Human Services has started cutting funds for mRNA vaccine research — a step one health expert condemned as “the most dangerous public health decision I have ever seen from a government body.”
