According to the Ministry of Defense, IADWS is a multi -level air defense system consisting of a quick -range surface -to -air indigenous missile (QRSAM), a very short distance air defense system (VSHORADS) missile and high -power laser -based laser -based energy weapons (DEW) system.

The indigenous air defense system was tested at 12:30 pm on Saturday from Odisha coast.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated those developing IADWS, Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and armed forces for flight tests.

The new air defense system has been flown three and a half months after Operation Sindoor.

Singh said on social media, “I congratulate DRDO, Indian Armed Forces and Industry for successfully developing IADWS.”

“This unique flight test has established our country’s multi -layered air defense capacity and it will strengthen the defense system against enemy threats,” he said.

A centralized command and control center under IADWS will integrate all arms systems.

The DRDO has created the command and control center, which is a nodal laboratory for the air defense program.

VSHORADS and DEW have been developed by Research Centers Building and High Energy System and Science Center respectively.

“During flight tests, QRSAM, VSHORADS and high energy laser weapons system targeted and completely destroyed three different goals at different distances and height during flight tests,” the Ministry said.
