Significant Drug Bust in Thoubal District
Imphal, Aug 24: In a recent operation, security personnel in the Thoubal district of Manipur apprehended five individuals suspected of drug trafficking and confiscated methamphetamine tablets valued at approximately Rs 1 crore, according to police reports on Sunday.
The arrests occurred during a coordinated effort at Lilong Ushoipokpi Tharaorok on Saturday.
Authorities reported that 2.27 kg of Yaba tablets (methamphetamine) were found at the home of one suspect, while an additional 45 grams were seized from another individual's residence.
The total worth of the seized drugs is estimated to be around Rs 1.6 crore in the international market, officials noted.
Methamphetamine, often referred to as ‘ice’ or ‘crystal meth’, is known for its high potential for addiction and powerful stimulant effects.
Investigations are ongoing to uncover the network associated with the confiscated drugs, they added.
In a previous incident in July, security forces in Manipur had seized drugs valued at Rs 18 crore, arrested a militant, and recovered various arms and ammunition from multiple locations in the area.
A collaborative team from Manipur Police and CRPF intercepted a vehicle at Tupul bridge, which was traveling from Churachandpur to Kangpokpi, and discovered 196 soap cases containing suspected heroin/brown sugar weighing 2.193 kg, excluding the packaging. The estimated value of these drugs is around Rs 18 crore, according to officials.
