Nikki haley on India-as relations: Tension is deepening between India and America. Meanwhile, former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley has given an important advice to India. He asked New Delhi on Sunday to take the concerns of US President Donald Trump seriously on import of Russian oil and try to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Haley’s statement came at a time when the relationship between the two countries is going through a delicate phase, which has also raised questions on the future strategic partnership.
The main reason for the current tension is the tight double tariffs imposed on India by the Trump administration on continuing to buy oil from Russia. Due to these fees, the fee on Indian exports has increased by 50 percent, which is considered one of the most rigorous trading actions declared by Trump. In addition, when India rejected Trump’s proposal to mediate in dispute with Pakistan, this also increased distance between the two countries. These incidents have put a question mark on decades -old friendship.
Remember friendship and shared goal
Nikki Haley, who has been an US ambassador to the United Nations during Trump’s tenure, reminded of the common interests of the two countries to resolve the controversy. He spoke in a post on social media platform ‘X’.
He wrote, “India should take Trump’s talk seriously on Russian oil and solve it together with the White House. It is as good as possible. The decades-old friendship and goodwill between the world’s two largest democracy gives a solid basis to recover from the existing upheaval. Should not be ignored which matters the most- to face our shared goal.
India’s tough stance
However, India has also reacted strongly to this action of America. New Delhi has criticized these measures as “inappropriate and indispensable”. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took a strong stand on the matter and clarified that he would not compromise with the interests of his farmers and fishermen of India. He said, “I know that I will have to pay its price, but I am ready to do so for the farmers.” This statement shows that India is not easily bending in front of American pressure.
