
New Delhi. Former Director General of CRPF and ITBP Aneesh Dayal Singh has been appointed as Deputy NSA. He is entrusted with the responsibility of handling internal affairs. The 1988 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Singh of Manipur cadre, Singh retired in December 2024. Before leading the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), he has served in the Intelligence Bureau (IB) for about 30 years. He has a widespread experience in this role.

Officials said that Shri Singh will be in charge of internal affairs of the country including Jammu and Kashmir, Naxalism and North Eastern extremism as Deputy National Security Advisor. Former Raw chief Rajinder Khanna is an additional national security advisor, while retired IPS officer TV Ravichandran and former IFS officer Pawan Kapoor are two serving sub -national security advisors.
Important role played in many important initiatives
During his tenure as a CRPF chief, Anish played an important role in several important initiatives, such as the progress of CRPF in dealing with Naxalism, establishing more than three dozen advance operational bases (forward operating base) and introducing four new battalions in leftist extremism affected areas. He also looked at the role of CRPF in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to ensure security during the first assembly elections.
Widespread restructuring of CRPF battalions

Internal, Aneesh initiated widespread restructuring of more than 130 CRPF battalions. It was the first such restructuring in eight years, which aims to improve operational efficiency and provide more family time to the soldiers, decreasing the average distance between units and their original centers from 1,200 km to 500 km. He also launched a dialogue session with the company commanders to collect the response, which was widely appreciated within the force.
Appointment under approval to provide honorary rank to retired personnel
This appointment has been made by the Central Government to provide honorary rank to retired personnel of the Central Armed Forces. A policy that Aneesh supported. Earlier this year, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued an order approved a policy with the aim of boosting the morale of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and Assam Rifles.
The policy was originally proposed by Anish himself, whose aim was to overcome the problem of long -standing deadlock in promotion, where some constables have to wait up to 20 years for their first promotion.
