Rinku Singh, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batsman from India, talked about a funny video that went around. It showed him asking Virat Kohli from Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for a bat before their IPL 2024 game.
Rinku said he met Kohli the day before the match. He said he accidentally broke the bat that Kohli had given him! Kohli joked that he wasn’t going to give him another one after that.
Rinku told News 24 that the video made him look bad. I got a bit too famous because of that bat, he said. I was just meeting Kohli like normal and asked for a bat, but the camera was always on me. People didn’t get it. It wasn’t good for me or Kohli, because those bat videos went all over the place.
Rinku also said that he got bats from MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma during the IPL 2024 season.
I didn’t hang out with Virat Bhai this IPL, Rinku said. I got a bat from Mahi Bhai (MS Dhoni) this time, and also from Rohit Sharma. It means a lot to me to get bats from players like that.
Rinku is in India’s team for the Asia Cup. But after not making the T20 World Cup squad (he was only a standby player), things haven’t been going as well for him.
He didn’t get to bat much in the 2024 IPL, facing only 113 balls. This might show that he’ll have a smaller part to play going ahead. Gautam Gambhir was KKR’s mentor and main planner in 2024. It seemed like Gambhir didn’t have big plans for Rinku, judging by how little he used him.
Right now, it’s hard to say if Rinku will definitely be picked for the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka next year. There’s a lot of competition for every batting spot.
