The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has implemented a fare increase of up to 10 percent across all metro lines, effective today, Monday, August 25, 2025, at 10:06 AM IST. This is the first fare revision in eight years since the last adjustment in 2017.

The fare hike affects passengers across all metro lines, with short-distance travelers paying an additional one rupee and those covering longer distances facing an increase of up to four rupees. The Airport Express Line, a key route for travelers to and from the Indira Gandhi International Airport, has seen a maximum fare hike of five rupees. According to the DMRC, the fare hike is minimal, and is designed to balance operational costs while keeping public transport affordable for Delhi’s residents.

According to the new fare structure, the maximum fare for the longest metro journey has risen from 60 rupees to 64 rupees. For shorter trips, the fare adjustment ranges from 1 to 4 rupees, depending on the distance traveled. The Airport Express Line’s fare increase is capped at 5 rupees.

The updated fare slab, effective immediately, is as follows:

Distance of 0-2 km: INR 11 for Monday to Saturday; INR 11 for Sundays and national holidays. Distance of 2-5 km: INR 21 for Monday to Saturday; INR 11 for Sundays and national holidays.

Distance of 5-12 km: INR 32 for Monday to Saturday; INR 21 for Sundays and national holidays.

Distance of 12-21 km: INR 43 for Monday to Saturday; INR 32 for Sundays and national holidays.

Distance of 21-32 km: INR 54 for Monday to Saturday; INR 43 for Sundays and national holidays.

Distance of over 32 km: INR 64 for Monday to Saturday; INR 54 for Sundays and national holidays.

The Delhi Metro, one of the largest and busiest metro systems in India, serves millions of passengers daily, easing traffic congestion and providing an eco-friendly transport option. The fare hike comes as the DMRC faces rising operational and maintenance costs.
