Prepare Tasty Makhana Kheer for Hartalika Teej
Delightful Makhana Kheer for Hartalika Teej: This year, Hartalika Teej falls on August 26, a significant day for married women who eagerly anticipate this festival. It is believed that by dressing beautifully and fasting on this day, married women can have their wishes granted.

The Hartalika Teej fast is quite challenging and is observed until the following morning. If you're looking to prepare something special to break your fast, consider making Makhana Kheer. This dish is not only a delightful choice for breaking the fast but also a healthy option that won't negatively impact your health.
Ingredients for Makhana Kheer:
- Makhana: 1 cup
- Milk: 1 liter
- Desi ghee: 1 teaspoon
- Sugar: 3-4 tablespoons
- Chopped dry fruits (cashews, almonds, pistachios): 2-3 tablespoons
- Cardamom powder: 1/2 teaspoon
- Saffron: a few strands (soaked in hot milk)
Preparation Method:
Making Makhana Kheer is quite simple. Start by roasting the makhanas. Heat some desi ghee in a heavy-bottomed pan and add the makhanas. Roast them on low heat while stirring until they become crispy; this is crucial for the kheer's flavor. Once roasted, you can coarsely grind them in a mixer, ensuring they remain in small pieces rather than a fine powder.
Next, boil the milk in a separate pan. Once the milk begins to thicken, add the coarsely ground makhana. Stir continuously and let it simmer on low heat for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the makhana to blend well with the milk. When the makhana is well incorporated, add sugar, cardamom powder, and saffron strands.
Finally, mix in the dry fruits according to your taste. Cook for an additional two to three minutes before turning off the heat. You can refrigerate the kheer and enjoy it when breaking your fast.
