Zahaan Hemrajani , a young sailor from Mumbai, secured a top 10 finish at the U17 O’pen Skiff World Championships held in Nishinomiya, Japan. His performance was one of the strongest by an Indian sailor at this international youth sailing event.
The championship took place from 17 to 23 July 2025 and was organised by the International O’pen Skiff Association under World Sailing. It brought together top youth sailors from across the world.
Despite missing the first six races due to equipment issues, Zahaan showed determination and resilience. He went on to win two races and finished in the top 10 in nearly half of his heats. His performance stood out for the focus and persistence he displayed throughout the event.
Reflecting on his achievement, Zahaan said, “This means everything to me. I am thankful to my coach Umesh Naiksatam, the 24Seven Sailing Team, and my mentor Amish Ved for their guidance. I also appreciate my parents for their support and Captain Abhimanyu Patankar of INWTC and the Royal Bombay Yacht Club for helping in my development. Training during the monsoon was possible thanks to the Government of Maharashtra at Pawna Lake, and I am grateful to my school, Oberoi International, for their flexibility.”
Zahaan’s performance highlights the growing presence of Indian youth sailors on the global stage. His dedication and results provide encouragement to aspiring sailors who aim to represent India in international competitions.
