Nightmares in AC Room: Does sleeping in an AC room cause nightmares? The truth between sleep and air conditioner and important advice from a doctor.

Nightmares in AC Room: Most people resort to air conditioners to enjoy a good sleep . The cool air of an AC room definitely makes sleep comfortable, but often people also complain that sleeping in an AC gives them strange and scary dreams. Hearing this, the question arises whether there is really a deep connection between AC and scary dreams?

Dr. Yogesh Sharma explains that our sleep is directly related to the body temperature and the environment. AC cools the room temperature, which helps in falling asleep quickly. But if the temperature is reduced too much, the body starts giving abnormal reactions. This condition affects the Rapid Eye Movement of the brain, which is the state of dreaming.

Why do we have more scary dreams?

  • Cold air and lack of oxygen- Running the AC in a very closed room reduces the flow of fresh air. This affects the brain and can lead to unwanted or scary dreams during sleep.
  • Temperature fluctuations- When the body feels too cold, the brain feels uncomfortable, and this disturbs the quality of sleep.
  • Mental fatigue and stress – AC definitely relaxes the body, but the combination of mental stress and cold sleep can often trigger negative dreams.

Is it right to always blame the AC?

Dr. Sharma says that AC is not always responsible for nightmares. Sometimes stress, depression, using mobile till late at night, sleeping after eating heavy food are also the reasons. Yes, if you sleep in AC every day and often have nightmares, then one reason for this can definitely be the environment.

Doctor's advice for better sleep

  • Keep the AC temperature up to 26 degrees
  • Make sure to keep the light ventilation in the room while sleeping
  • Avoid heavy meals or caffeine at night
  • Make it a habit to listen to relaxing music, meditate , or read a book before going to sleep

There may be a connection between AC rooms and nightmares, but this does not apply to everyone. In most cases, the cause of the problem is a wrong temperature setting or mental stress. If you, too are troubled by frequent nightmares while sleeping in an AC, then it is important to balance the sleep environment as per the doctor's advice .
