Inflammation is a process by which the immune system recognizes and removes harmful foreign substances and begins the healing process. It can be of two types- acute and chronic. While acute inflammation can cause tissue damage and can last for a short time, however, chronic inflammation lasts for more prolonged periods and can cause diseases such as stroke, respiratory diseases, heart disorders, cancer, obesity and diabetes.
Most people remain unaware that their body is battling with inflammation but now a longevity doctor with a degree from Cornell University Medical College has revealed two blood tests that can save your life.
Dr Vassily Eliopoulos posts a variety of health education videos on his Instagram account 'dr.vassily' where he enjoys a following of 170K. Recently, he shared a video about two tests that can help you detect inflammation early on and thus prevent it from "wrecking your heart, clogging your brain or silently shortening your life."
In the video that has received about 1K likes and comments, the doctor said: "If you want to make absolutely sure that inflammation never wrecks your heart, clogs your brain, or silently shortens your life, you need to know about two specific blood tests. Most doctors skip them but they could save your life."

"Here's the truth, an inflammatory protein abbreviated as HS CRP, which stands for High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein , if elevated above three can triple your risk of a heart attack. That's not a maybe, that's a well-established, data-backed risk," explained the doc.
"Then there's homocysteine, another type of silent threat. When your levels of homocysteine climb above 15 you dramatically increase your risk of a stroke, cognitive decline and early dementia. Why? Because it can start choking off the blood flow to your brain and damage the internal linings of your arteries," he added.

However, what the doctor warned about was that 9 out of 10 standard yearly preventative workouts don't test for either of these. "Even though both biomarkers are inexpensive well-researched and incredibly predictive of future disease."
He advised thinking of high-sensitivity CRP and homocysteine as your body's internal smoke detectors. While the former informs how much inflammation is actively burning inside your arteries right now, the latter shows whether your body's detox and methylation pathways are getting blocked, leaving the system more toxic and the blood vessels more vulnerable.
What's positive to know is that these markers are highly modifiable. The doctor shared how he had seen patients drop their high sensitivity CRP from three to under one and their homocysteine nearly in half in just a few weeks.
How? "By dialling in anti-inflammatory peptides , optimizing methylated B vitamins, cleaning up seed oils, boosting omega threes and dialling in deep restorative sleep."
"A simple blood test asking for high-sensitivity CRP and homocysteine together. No imaging, no MRI, no guesswork. These are two tests that need to be on your radar," said dr.vassily.
