New Delhi: Bollywoods most versatile actor Rajkumar Rao has been selected to play the role of Indias legendary cricketer Sourav Ganguly who is also known as DADA. The biopic is scheduled to release in 2026. Ganguly has been in news recently as he begins his first coaching stint with Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 league. From guiding South African players to soon having Bollywood capture his legendary shirt-waving moment at Lord’s Dada is truly enjoying a remarkable phase. Biopic will be directed by Vikramaditya Motwane Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane the biopic is his second project with Rao and looks to be more than a simple nostalgia trip combining cricket and film. The shoot will start from January 2026 giving Rao enough time so that he learn Ganguly’s trademark left-handed batting style. He has already started intense net sessions working hard to replicate that effortless almost regal cover drive that became a hallmark of an era. Ganguly has personally approvd the casting calling Rao as the right choice. Still this is no ordinary role. Dada was a larger-than-life figure a mix of strategist rebel and rock star. To portray him Rao will have to match the attitude along with the authenticity. Movie set to have a Bengali touch Additionally there is a Bengali touch in the movie. The movie will have Bengali dialogue because of Gangulys heritage and Rao is already in good hands because of his Bengali wife Patralekhaa. An added bonus is that he is fluent in the language which should help him capture Dadas swagger without soundy weird. Rao confessed that he feels both nervous and excited. Playing Ganguly isnt like playing a fictional hero its like entering the middle order while the crowd chants your name. The pressure is unbearable and the expectations are extremely high. Rajkummar Rao however has the ability to make this innings a six. The main question will be whether Rajkummar Rao can actually persuade viewers that he is Sourav Ganguly when the movie releases in the theaters in December 2026. The timing seems ideal because Dada is already in news off the field.
