Today when technology pervades every sphere of life, it's easy to become overly dependent on it. While technology should serve to enhance our talents, it must never replace our skills. Many tend to choose the easier route - seeking external help instead of relying on their own abilities. Yet, it is self- dependence that ultimately supports us during our darkest hours.

Our scriptures offer timeless examples of the power of self-reliance. The interaction between Arjun - disguised as Brihannala - and Prince Uttar of the Matsya kingdom is a pivotal moment in the Mahabharat. When Kauravs attacked Matsya, Uttar was tasked with defending the land by King Virat. Initially boastful, he panicked at the sight of enemy and attempted to flee. It was then that Arjun revealed his identity and fought valiantly to defend the kingdom. Witnessing Arjun's courage, Uttar came to understand the value of self-reliance. He later stood by Pandavs in Kurukshetra war, fighting bravely and fulfilling his duty with dignity.

The Swadeshi movement, led by M K Gandhi, exemplifies self-dependence on a national scale. By advocating for the boycott of foreign goods and promoting indigenous products, the movement fostered economic independence.

As the Swedish proverb wisely states, 'The best place to find a helping hand is at the end of your own arm.' In every era, self-reliance has remained a timeless virtue. It is not only a source of strength but a guiding principle that empowers individuals and nations.
