Detectives have launched a murder investigation after an 87-year-old man was found strangled to death in his own home. A 47-year-old man, Vasile Losebica, who police say was known to victim Brian Hunt has been arrested and will appear in court later today.
Met Police were called at around 1am on Sunday morning to an address in Wellmeadow Road, Lewisham, alongside the London Ambulance Service, following reports of a death at the property. The 87-year-old victim was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers.
A post-mortem examination held on Monday, 25 August gave the cause of death as compression of the neck.
Iosebica, 47, who is understood to be of Romanian descent, of Wellmeadow Road, Lewisham, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and was subsequently charged earlier today and will appear before Bromley Magistrates' Court
