Type C Charger Cable: Nowadays, the Type C charger is considered the most suitable for most devices. Companies have started providing Type-C chargers with laptops as well. USB-C connection is now available in laptops, phones, wireless Bluetooth speakers, earbuds, and other devices. It is used for charging and data transfer. Even though USB-C is seen everywhere, not all USB-C ports or cables are the same. Charging and data transfer speeds can vary. Let's know what USB-C is, and what things to keep in mind while buying a USB-C charger cable.

What is USB-C?

The full form of USB is Universal Serial Bus. Its latest version, 'Type-C', is the most widely used USB type to date. USB-C is a connection port that is used to charge the device and transfer data. It has been created by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF), which includes big companies like Apple, Intel, Microsoft, and Samsung. It can be plugged in any direction, up or down. Whereas in the old cable, one had to plug it by looking at the direction.

How fast does a USB-C cable charge?

The biggest advantage of USB-C is that you can charge many of your gadgets with the same cable and charger. But the charging speed of the cable varies. The best cables can charge up to 240 watts, which is enough to charge large devices like laptops quickly. The free cable that comes with the earbuds may only be able to charge up to 20 watts, which is quite slow. Different charging cables come according to the device. Apart from this, there is a separate cable for data transfer and a separate cable for charging.

Check these things before buying a cable
If you want to buy a USB-C cable for a mobile charger, then you have to buy the cable according to its charging wattage. Check the manual of your device to see how much power it supports. Choose a cable that matches the wattage of your device and charger. For example, if your charger is 60W, get a cable that supports at least 60W. Choose a cable from a trusted brand like Samsung, Apple, or Vivo. Cheap and unbranded cables can damage your device. Get a cable with USB-IF certification as it is safer. Look for the certification logo on the packaging.

Monitor cable
If you want to use the cable to connect a laptop or device to a monitor, make sure the cable supports video signals. For this, a cable with a USB 3.2 Gen 2 rating or better is required. Ordinary cables do not transfer video signals. If you have a Thunderbolt device, such as a MacBook or a high-end laptop, choose a cable that supports Thunderbolt 4 or 5. These provide up to 240W of power and 40-80 Gbps data transfer. Such cables are expensive, but are essential for high-end devices.
