Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag, famous for his fearless batting and two triple centuries in Test cricket, is now often seen in the commentary box. Meanwhile, his elder son Aryaveer Sehwag has started his own cricketing journey and is currently part of Central Delhi Kings in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025.
During a recent interview, Aryaveer shared a personal story that highlighted Sehwag’s trademark humor and the challenges of following in his father’s footsteps.
Aryaveer’s revelation about his fatherSpeaking about his early years, Aryaveer said:
“My father used to tell us, ‘You people consider me just the chicken of the house, but you’ll understand my value once you play professional cricket.’ Now I realize how great a player he was.”
Aryaveer admitted that after playing professional cricket for the past two-three years, he now has a new appreciation for the level at which his father performed for India. He also recalled how both brothers used to play with a plastic bat and ball at home, with Sehwag always encouraging them to play freely.
Childhood memory from IPL daysAryaveer also narrated a funny memory from the first edition of the IPL when Virender Sehwag played for Delhi Daredevils.
Aryaveer’s cricketing career so far“Whenever there were matches in Delhi, we would rush to the stadium. But by the time we reached Arun Jaitley Stadium, Papa would already be out. We were always so disappointed,” he recalled with a laugh.
Though just 17 years old, Aryaveer is already being spoken about for his aggressive batting style, much like his father. Central Delhi Kings bought him this season for Rs 8 lakh, but he is yet to get his debut match in DPL 2025. Despite that, his name is buzzing among fans who are curious to see if the Sehwag legacy continues on the field.
This piece nicely mixes Virender Sehwag’s trademark humor with Aryaveer’s emotional journey as he starts his cricketing career.
