The Bihar government has started the Dragon Fruit Development Scheme to encourage farmers to cultivate dragon fruit. Under this scheme, farmers will get a 60% subsidy on the cost of cultivation. This program will run till 2025-26 and 2026-27.
How much subsidy will be available?
The estimated cost of Dragon Fruit cultivation is Rs 6.75 lakh per hectare. The government will give you a subsidy of Rs 2.7 lakh for this in two installments. In the first year, Rs 1.62 lakh and Rs 1.08 lakh will come to your account in the second year.
This scheme will be available in 22 districts, including Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, Purnia, Rohtas, Darbhanga, Siwan, and Kishanganj. Farmers can apply online through the Agriculture Department website or contact their District Horticulture Officer for details.
There is a huge demand for dragon fruit in the market.
Dragon fruit is a high-value crop that requires less water and has a good demand in the market. Once planted, it can provide income to farmers for many years. Experts say that this scheme will not only improve income but will also promote crop diversity in Bihar.

To avail the Dragon Fruit Vikas Yojana, farmers can apply online through the Agriculture Department website. They can also contact their District Horticulture Officer for detailed guidance. By applying early, farmers can ensure that they do not miss out on the first phase benefits.
