Harry Maguire makes Benjamin Sesko feelings clear after Gary Neville's 'nowhere near' claim

Harry Maguire is already convinced that Benjamin Sesko will give Premier League defenders nightmares as the Manchester United striker prepares to make his first start since joining from RB Leipzig.

Sesko, 22, moved to Old Trafford earlier this month in a deal worth £73.7millionas part of an attacking overhaul, with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo also joining for big money. However, while Cunha and Mbeumo have started both of United's Premier League games so far this season, Sesko has been eased into life in the top-flight with a substitute role.

That stance has divided opinion with United scoring once in games against Arsenal and Fulham. But with plenty of changes expected when United travel to Grimsby Town in the League Cup on Wednesday night, Sesko is likely to get a longer run out.

Regardless, Maguire thinks United's new striker has all the attributes he needs to be a hit in the Premier League - and that both starts and goals will soon come. He told United's official website: "He’s [Sesko] a unit for his age. I’m sure he’s going to cause a lot of defenders problems. He’s still young, but he’s got all the attributes to contribute to the team and to contribute to this club for many years to come, so we’ll give him our full backing and, fingers crossed, he scores many goals for us."

Gary Neville is among those who think starting Sesko against Grimsby should be a no-brainer for Ruben Amorim. The former Manchester United defender says Sesko is "nowhere near" up to speed in terms of fitness or an understanding of how the team play and that 90 minutes of action would benefit him regardless of the level of opposition.

Speaking on the Gary Neville podcast, he said: “Sesko at the moment - let's just say it, he is nowhere near in terms of fitness or getting up to speed. Obviously there is a clamour to play him. Even I was saying last week let's get him straight in.

“[Amorim] is going to have to get Sesko in against Grimsby and give him 90 minutes so that he can be played [from the start] against Burnley next Saturday because you can see he needs football. What you can't do is let a player of that value, that potential, just keep being on the bench.

“The problem he'll have is that he wants to keep Mason Mount in the team. But when Sesko did come on and Mount went into midfield and they took Casemiro off, they did get opened up and it looked [more likely] that Fulham would score.”
