Ingredients
1 cup jowar flour
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1/2 cup semolina
1/2 cup boiled green peas (optional)
2 tsp green chili paste
2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
1-2 pinches of asafoetida
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp urad dal
8-10 chopped curry leaves
1 lemon
1-2 tbsp oil
Salt to taste
Preparation Method
- Begin by finely chopping the onion and curry leaves, then boil the peas.
- Heat oil in a pan; once hot, add mustard seeds and urad dal, frying for a few seconds.
- When the mustard seeds start to crackle, add the curry leaves and asafoetida, stirring for a few more seconds.
- Next, add the chopped onion and sauté for about a minute until soft. Incorporate the semolina and mix well, frying over medium heat.
- Afterward, mix in the jowar flour and fry for an additional 2 minutes, stirring continuously.
- Add the green chili paste, peas, coriander leaves, and salt, cooking while mixing thoroughly.
- Pour in 3 cups of water (adjust as needed) and stir well.
- Allow the upma to cook for 2-3 minutes over medium heat. Finally, squeeze in lemon juice and turn off the heat. Your jowar upma is now ready to serve.
