A near unrecognisable Netflix star is set to appear alongside a Sherlock Holmes actor in Netflix's new gripping thriller.

Jason Bateman, will feature in a role far from his early comedy roles in the limited series, set against the backdrop of New York's high-pressure nightlife scene.

It delves into the tumultuous lives of two brothers who founded a high profile venue.

Bateman leads an all-star cast that includes a number of guest stars. Early reactions suggest that the series could be Netflix's response to The Bear, but with significantly higher stakes.

But what exactly is Black Rabbit about? Who else is in the cast? When can you stream the series and why should you watch it? Here's everything you need to know.

What is Black Rabbit about?

Black Rabbit centres on two brothers who discover just how far family ties and the pursuit of success can push them to the brink. Jake Friedkin is the charismatic owner of Black Rabbit, a restaurant and VIP lounge on the verge of becoming New York's hottest spot.

When his brother, Vince, unexpectedly returns to the business, trouble soon follows; opening the door to old traumas and new dangers that threaten to topple everything they've built , reports the Mirror.

Netflix assures that Black Rabbit is a thrilling and character-driven exploration of how an unbreakable bond between two brothers can shatter their world and everything around them.

Who is in the cast of Black Rabbit?

As previously mentioned, Jason Bateman, recognised for his earlier work in programmes like Arrested Development and Ozark, will headline the cast as one of the siblings. He's also working behind the camera and helmed the opening two episodes.

Alongside him as his brother is Jude Law, famous for Inside Man and Sherlock Holmes. Most recently, he's featured in the series Star Wars Skeleton Crew and true crime thriller The Order.

The cast also includes:

  • Jude Law as Jake Friedken
  • Jason Bateman as Vince Friedken
  • Cleopatra Coleman, known for Clipped as Estelle, an esteemed interior designer
  • Amaka Okafor from Bodies and The Responder as Roxie, an ambitious New York chef
  • p Dìrísù, having appeared in Gangs of London and Slow Horses plays as Wes, a prominent musician and entrepreneur
  • Dagmara Dominczyk from Succession as Val, an affluent New York philanthropist and Jake's ex-wife
  • Troy Kotsur, who won an Oscar for his performance in CODA as Joe Mancuso, a local bookie with ties to organized crime and to the brothers' past.

Why should you watch Black Rabbit?

Black Rabbit's trailer reveals just how many twists, turns and rapid-fire action appear to be crammed into the eight-episode series. Enthusiasts are already thrilled about the pairing of Bateman and Law, with the former taking on another dramatic role following his award-winning Ozark performance.

One fan responding to the trailer anticipated a similar atmosphere to that programme, as they wrote: "Looks like it's gonna have that Ozark formula. To solve one problem, you dig yourself into two more worse problems. It's like the ponzi scheme of drama."

Other early reviews such as those penned by Cosmopolitan have suggested that the series appears to be a 'twisted thriller' that will prove to be 'a pulse-pounding watch'. Someone else concurred with the earlier comparison that it resembled The Bear meets Ozark.

Meanwhile, the programme's stars have explained why they believe Netflix viewers will want to binge the series when it launches. Law stated: "At the heart, I hope [audiences] are hooked by the complicated, loving, volatile relationship of these two brothers."

Black Rabbit is streaming from September 18
