History and importance of the temple
The history of this temple is quite glorious and ancient. It was established in the 11th century by the Chola ruler Kulothunga Chola-I and later expanded by the Vijayanagara Empire in 1336. It is believed that the idol of Ganesha installed here appeared swayambhu, i.e., on its own. It is said that three physically disabled persons found this idol from a well, and their body problems were relieved by just touching it.
Due to these miracles, this temple was named 'Varasiddhi Vinayak', where 'Vara' means 'boon' and 'Siddhi' means 'success' or 'miraculous power'.
