A Groundbreaking Approach to Mental Health
On August 24, 2025, Ishan Shivanand's book, 'The Practice of Immortality,' drew a large audience at Yashobhoomi Delhi, presenting scientifically supported strategies to tackle India's mental health issues. Released by Penguin Random House and Hachette Book Group in 15 countries and four languages (English, Italian, German, Portuguese), this USA Today National Bestseller quickly rose to the top of Amazon India's charts within a week. It represents a significant fusion of ancient wisdom and modern healthcare practices.
Shivanand, who hails from a lineage of yogis spanning twenty-one generations, has extensive training in Indian monasteries under his father, H. H. Avdhoot Shivanand. His Yoga of Immortals (YOI) protocol, which has been validated through clinical trials, shows a remarkable 72-82% improvement in conditions such as anxiety, depression, and insomnia within a span of 4-8 weeks when combined with traditional medical treatments.
During the event, Shivanand emphasized, "When I refer to immortality, I am not discussing a fantastical state. It is about adopting a mindset, a practice, a call to awaken. It involves enhancing your relationship with the time you possess, which fundamentally alters the anxiety stemming from our perception of time constraints."
Insights from the Book Launch
The book launch featured Smt. Priti Agarwal, the Chief Guest and Post Master General for Indore Zone, who is also an IAS Officer. She remarked, "This work provides genuine insights for our youth rather than temporary fixes. The English version enables them to engage with established methodologies instead of fleeting trends."
The popularity of the book highlights a growing demand for effective mental health solutions that complement traditional medicine. Canadian mindfulness trainer Margaret Beukeveld praised the book, stating, "The Practice of Immortality is captivating. It stands alongside classics like 'Autobiography of a Yogi,' 'A New Earth,' and the Dalai Lama's writings. It is both inspiring and practical, making it a timeless resource for life's challenges.
