Doctor Who star Matt Smith sported a brand new look and looked unrecognisable as he attended the New York premiere of his new film, Caught Stealing. The House of the Dragon actor, known for his medium-length dark hair and side parting, looked worlds away from his usual self. Instead, he wore thin glasses and a grey suit, but his hair had changed to a more casual and rugged hairstyle. Matt plays a punk-inspired character in the upcoming Darren Aronofsky movie, which reportedly takes place in New York in the '90s. His role as Russ Miner boasts a crazy mohawk, which looks as though it's been put up with a ton of hairspray.

But the British actor hasn't played the Doctor in the BBC drama in a long time - 11 years to be exact. And since then, he's had a variety of different hairstyles.

In 2013, Matt shocked fans when he shaved all of his hair off for a role in Lost River, a film directed by Ryan Gosling. He later grew it all back.

Matt then sported another brand new look in 2022, swapping his messy combover for a dramatic, slicked-back style. This gave off a notably more mature, formal vibe, echoing his bold and charismatic character of Prince Daemon Targaryen in House of the Dragon.

The new film, Caught Stealing, marks Aronofsky's first major release since 2022's The Whale, which got Brendan Fraser an Oscar for Best Actor.

The official synopsis teases: "Hank Thompson (Austin Butler) was a high-school baseball phenom who can't play anymore, but everything else is going okay. He's got a great girl (Zoë Kravitz), tends bar at a New York dive, and his favourite team is making an underdog run at the pennant.

"When his punk-rock neighbour Russ (Matt Smith) asks him to take care of his cat for a few days, Hank suddenly finds himself caught in the middle of a motley crew of threatening gangsters. They all want a piece of him; the problem is he has no idea why. As Hank attempts to evade their ever-tightening grip, he's got to use all his hustle to stay alive long enough to find out..."

The film is released in cinemas on August 29.
