Monsoon weather can affect hair health due to humidity, pollution, and the shift between dry indoor and damp outdoor conditions. Hair may frizz, fall, or lose volume if not cared for properly. Experts suggest adjusting your haircare routine according to your commute style.
Dipti Bhadeshiya , Hair Expert, Floractive Profissional , Shimmers Cosmetics Pvt. Ltd., explains, “Understanding how your daily environment affects your hair is important. Those exposed to rain and pollution need protection and gentle care, while people mostly in air-conditioned or dry spaces need hydration and moisture retention.”
For daily walkers or public transport users, she recommends using a gentle shampoo that does not strip natural oils. “Apply a lightweight leave-in conditioner or anti-frizz serum to protect hair from humidity. Heavy oiling during the day may attract dust, so limit it to weekly hair masks to restore moisture,” Bhadeshiya adds.
For commuters using cars or travelling between office and home, she suggests hydrating shampoos and conditioners enriched with keratin or hyaluronic acid. “A few drops of hair oil or serum post-wash help lock in moisture. Limit heat styling, as dry indoor air combined with styling tools can cause breakage,” she notes.
Universal tips include never tying up wet hair, using a microfiber towel to dry hair gently, and avoiding brushing when wet. Scalp care is equally important, and a mild exfoliating shampoo once a week can help maintain scalp health. “Monsoon haircare is about adapting your routine to your lifestyle, not fighting nature. Simple adjustments can keep hair healthy throughout the season,” Bhadeshiya concludes.
