
NEW DELHI – The Sophia Society, under the auspices of the Delhi Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, is proud to announce that the Dr. Paulose Mar Gregorios Award this year will be conferred upon renowned scientist Dr. Tessy Thomas. Widely known as the ‘Missile Woman of India,’ or the ‘Agriputri.’ She is being honored for her visionary contributions to science and her enduring commitment to societal welfare.
“The prestigious award ceremony will be held on November 30 where Dr. Thomas will be presented with the honor by His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Mathews III, the Supreme Head of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church,” Dr. Youhanon Mar Demetrios, Metropolitan of Delhi Diocese, Malankara Orthodox Church said here today.
Established in the name of a globally known philosopher, peace activist and the first Metropolitan of the Delhi Diocese, the late Dr. Paulose Mar Gregorios, the award celebrates individuals who, like him, are deeply rooted in their beliefs yet transcend their culture and personality to work for the betterment of all humanity. The award has been bestowed upon several eminent national and international personalities including His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Dr. Baba Amte, Ms. Aruna Roy, Dr. Sonam Wangchuk among others till now.
Dr. Tessy Thomas, a distinguished scientist and former Director General (Aeronautical Systems) at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) was the first woman scientist to lead a missile project in India, serving as Project Director for the Agni-IV and Agni-V ballistic missiles.
