Drivers have been advised to leave some family members at home when they're looking to buy a new car. The recommendation was shared on TikTok by @ashxautos, a US-based car saleswoman who shares advice for motorists. In a video titled 'Don't bring more than one family member to the dealership', Ash told her 44,000 followers: "I'm gonna hold your hand when I say this. Your family is literally ruining your car shopping experience."

She said: "If you're worried about a car salesman trying to pressure you into buying a car, wait until you bring four of your family members to the dealership, not telling you what you should do, but telling you what they would do if they were in your position. What your family doesn't understand is that car buying advice is not linear, and what works for one will simply not work for another."

Ash pointed out that the conflicting advice you might receive can confuse matters, despite your family's good intentions. She said: "Your dad would never lease a car because it's throwing away money.

"Meanwhile, leasing might be the very perfect option that fits you the best. Your uncle is telling you that you should buy a $5,000 car cash because he does it every three years and he's just fine.

"Your mom is telling you to get a Toyota at a Honda dealership because it's cheaper. But she doesn't know that you can buy a certified pre-owned that comes with seven years, hundred thousand miles, on a powertrain warranty."

She added: "By no means am I telling you not to listen to your family. But I am telling you, when it comes to financial decisions, make your own. Do your research, figure out what works for you, and stop relying on people that don't pay your bills or make your money to make decisions that affect your future."

The video proved popular on TikTok, gaining thousands of likes. There were also many comments, and several people agreed with the advice. One reply said: "Kinda learned that the hard way."

A second wrote: "If I'm buying a car for myself I am coming alone. if I'm buying a car for my family, I'm bringing my family." A third commented: "They just going to talk about the low interest rate they got 10 years ago."

A fourth replied: "This!!! I went by myself and it was the best decision I made," and someone shared: "The other day I have a family of 8!!!!!! LIKE WHY???? I said only 3 at my desk everyone else outside."

However, a different commenter said: "Only bring people with car buying experience." Someone else wrote: "I love it when customers have the whole family there. That just tells me all the decision makers are in the room! The key is to never insult the mavens, they can literally help you close a deal if you show them respect."

Another reply read: "Disagree with this. my mom and dad were so helpful in the process. They listened to what I want. Of 4 or 5 car salesmen, only one didn’t make me feel like garbage about myself and my car shopping experience."
