New Horizons in Mental Healthcare
Bhubaneswar: A significant advancement in mental health services has been marked by the inauguration of a cutting-edge neuromodulation centre at AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
This new facility, located within the psychiatry department, is designed to provide hope for patients facing drug-resistant and challenging psychiatric conditions through innovative, non-invasive brain stimulation therapies, as stated by the institute.
Executive Director Ashutosh Biswas expressed, "The establishment of this neuromodulation centre represents a pivotal milestone for AIIMS Bhubaneswar. It reflects our commitment to delivering the latest and most effective medical technologies to the residents of Odisha and beyond."
The centre is outfitted with state-of-the-art neuromodulation equipment, including a repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation unit, an ultra-brief pulse electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) unit, and transcranial electrical stimulation (TES).
These non-invasive methods target specific brain circuits, providing tailored treatments for various mental health issues, substance use disorders, and neuropsychiatric conditions, according to the institute.
By concentrating on the affected brain regions, these therapies present a more precise and acceptable alternative to traditional treatment approaches, significantly enhancing recovery speed and overall outcomes.
Dean Biswa Ranjan Mishra remarked that this facility will serve as a beacon of hope, offering advanced treatment options for those who have struggled to find relief through standard methods.
