The upcoming rising star from Vidarbha, the 21-year-old Danish Malewar, etched his name into the annals of history with a giant double century knock that he played on his Duleep Trophy debut. An innings which was full of glorious shots, patience and full of energy. The young lad scored 203 runs from 222 balls for the Central Zone against the North East Zone before retiring out himself.

With that double century, the rising star also became the fastest indian to score 1000 runs in First-Class cricket in just 16 innings. Malewar has been the tip of the highlights in recent times; his journey has sped up with his performances since making his debut in 2024. His performance is letting his name be carved in the history books; his 2024 Ranji season was the breakthrough season. He scored 783 runs at an average of 52.20 runs, the third highest (after Yash Rathod and Karun Nair) in the Vidarbha team. That included two hundred and six half-centuries too, with a strike-rate of 51. Not only this, his performance was highlighted when he scored two resilient knocks of 79 and 29 against the 42-time Ranji Trophy winner Mumbai in the semi-final and leading his team to a convincing 80-run victory.

Vishnu, Malewar’s father, who is an avid cricket fan himself, had already decided that if he had a son after his marriage, then he would make him a cricketer, but hailing from a lower-middle-class family, the 21-year-old batter knew that it was not going to be an easy path.

As quoted by the Indian Express:

“My father always wanted me to be a cricketer and I got into an academy when I was seven,. He faced a lot of difficulties but ensured that my cricketing needs were taken care of. There were people who used to give me bats, pads and gloves when I made runs during my junior days. Money only started coming in post my under- 19 days.”

Malewar’s double century highlighted his anchoring ability, which makes him a standout batter in recent times. His resilience of play longer innings should be the talking point, and when the top talents from the Indian Test circuit have already signed off, it is the BCCI’s duty to keep an eye on this talent and nurture his passion.
