Beef Paratha protests in Canara Bank
Canara bank beef protest: A unique scene was seen at a branch of Canara Bank located in Kochi, Kerala, when the bank employees staged a protest by serving beef paratha outside the office. The demonstration was carried out against the ban on serving beef in the bank’s canteen, which is being linked to the order of the Bihari manager of the bank.
Bihari manager accused of beef ban
Employees say that a regional manager from Bihar recently prohibited the serving of beef in the canteen as soon as he took charge in Kerala. Earlier, a small canteen was served beef a few days a week, but now it has been ordered to close it completely.
Protests started with mental harassment
The performance was previously against the mental harassment and derogatory behavior of the manager. But when the employees came to know about the beef ban, they changed the direction of performance by connecting it with food freedom. He protested by serving beef and paratha outside the bank.
Eating beef is our choice …
Bank Employees Federation (Befi) leader SS Anil said, “This bank runs according to the Indian Constitution. Food is a personal choice of every person. We are not forcing anyone to eat beef, but this is the way of freedom of expression.” He said that such a ban within the bank is unconstitutional and unfair.
Performance got political support
Political circles also saw reactions on this issue. Left -backed independent MLA Katie Jalil supported the performance on Facebook and said, “The Sangh Parivar agenda will not be implemented in Kerala.” He further wrote, “What to eat, what to wear, what to think – this officer cannot decide. This earth is red, its heart is red. Where the red flag is waved, there can be openly speaking against fascism.”
There have been demonstrations in support of beef even before
This is not the first time that there has been a protest against beef in Kerala. In 2017, several beef fests were also organized in the state against the ban on the sale of cattle by the central government. Beef in Kerala is considered not only food, but also an issue to constitutional rights and culture.
