Court Delivers Life Sentences in Rayagada Murder Case
Rayagada: In a significant ruling, a local court in Odisha's Rayagada district sentenced three individuals to life imprisonment on Saturday after they were found guilty of murder in a case from 2023.
The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Alpana Swain, determined that the defendants were culpable of the crime and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on each of them.
Should they fail to pay the fine, they will face an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment, as stated by Additional Public Prosecutor Ramprasad Patra.
The incident involved the trio attacking Gajendra Nayak from Kashanadora village with axes due to a land dispute in June 2023, according to police reports.
Nayak was taken to the Kashipur Community Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead by medical staff.
Following a complaint filed by his son, law enforcement apprehended the suspects on June 12, 2023, and confiscated the weapons used in the attack.
