VIT-AP University Organises Guest Lecture on the Occasion of Telugu Language Day

On the occasion of Telugu Language Day (Telugu Bhasha Dinotsavam), VIT-AP School of Social Sciences and Humanities (VISH), VIT-AP University, organised a distinguished guest lecture to celebrate the richness and legacy of the Telugu language. The guest lecture on “Navigating the Cultural Landscape: Challenges and Solutions in AI-driven English-Telugu Translation” was delivered on 29 August 2025 by Dr. Sarath Chandra P., Regional Director, IGNOU Regional Centre, who graced the occasion as the esteemed resource person. The event witnessed the presence of eminent academicians, faculty, research scholars, and students who gathered to commemorate the birthday of Gidugu Venkata Ramamurthy, a renowned linguist and social reformer who advocated for the use of simple, accessible Telugu in education and literature. A special tribute was paid to him honouring his invaluable contributions to the Telugu language and literature.

On this occasion, Dr. Priyanka Ghosh, Dean-in-Charge of the VIT-AP School of Social Sciences and Humanities (VISH), delivered a brief welcome note, highlighting the School of Social Sciences and Humanities, its establishment, growth trajectory, and current academic and research trends. She emphasised the significance of the B.A.–M.A. integrated programme, a flagship programme of VISH, and elaborated on its relevance and development in the present academic scenario.

The session was highly engaging as it focussed on the issues and solutions of AI-driven translations. It also highlighted the cultural and linguistic intricacies, along with the inherent limitations of AI in capturing the depth, nuance, and context of translations. The talk not only addressed technological challenges but also emphasised the need to preserve the spirit and authenticity of Telugu/English through evolving digital mediums.

The programme concluded with an engaging Q&A session and a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Neelima Adapa, the faculty coordinator, who acknowledged the support of the University administration and the active participation of the audience.

The celebration of Telugu Language Day at VIT-AP University reinforced the institution’s commitment to preserving cultural values while fostering academic excellence.
