On Monday, Sept. 1, it was announced that Warwick Davis will return to his role as Charms professor Filius Flitwick in the upcoming Harry Potter television series. The show is described as a new adaptation of the original book series.
“Warwick Davis returns as Professor Filius Flitwick, marking his homecoming to the wizarding world in a role he originated for the film series,” a press release stated. The announcement coincided with Back to Hogwarts, an annual global fan celebration marking the fictional return to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry on Sept. 1.
Davis, 55, appeared in all eight films in the original movie franchise, beginning in 2001 and concluding in 2011. He also portrayed the goblin Griphook in several installments.
The British actor is the first original film cast member confirmed to appear in the new series. Sharing the news on social media, Davis called the return “a real homecoming.”
“Hogwarts has always held a very special place in my heart. When I first stepped into Professor Flitwick ’s robes all those years ago, I could never have imagined the journey this character and the wizarding world would take me on,” he wrote. “Thank you to all the fans who have kept the magic alive I can’t wait to see you back in the classroom. Here’s to further adventures at Hogwarts.”
